Coping with grief

“Death ends a life, not a relationship.”
Morrie Schwartz
Grief is not a static state and learning to live with grief involves the toughest balancing act there is; that of both letting go and holding on. There is no right or wrong way to do this, but some ways are healthier than others.
I’m Addison. I’m a professional counselor, psychotherapist and grief support specialist.
As a mental health professional, with 20+ years experience, and having experienced significant losses myself, I hope to provide some support, and education to anyone looking for a better understanding of the complicated experience of life after loss.

Today. Tomorrow. Ever.
Grief takes on many
forms
Grief is the natural response to loss. It’s the physical and emotional suffering you feel when someone you love is taken away from you. The pain of loss can be overwhelming. There are all kinds of difficult and unexpected emotions like shock and disbelief, anger, guilt, and profound sadness. Grief can also disrupt your physical health, making it difficult to sleep, eat, or to even think straight. These, and many more, are all normal reactions to loss—and the more significant the loss, the more intense your grief will be.
“Look closely and you will see
Almost everyone carrying bags
Of cement on their shoulders.
That’s why it takes courage
To get out of bed in the morning
And climb into the day.”
~ Edward Hirsch
